WHAT'S NEW!

Look for my third new book, BOOK WORM, coming out in April 2007. BOOK WORM focuses on the abstract concept of idioms while Brett and Herman make their way through their home town. With the use of a map Brett and Herman head to the library and talk to familiar faces. When Brett confuses idioms for literal meaning funny interactions result!

Brett's Art Gallery

Alone In The Crowd -- For Brett

Alone in the crowd.
A cliché, they say.
For me, it’s my life.
How I live day to day.
In my head are my friends like Thomas and Pooh.
I go to see them when there’s nothing to do.
I know no other way to be
And only I know just what I see.
I’m told I need to be like you.
It’s what everyone does. It’s what I should do.
It’s just to hard. I can’t see it your way.
I’ll tell you my story if I may.
So many things are too loud or too bright.
If I say so myself, I have excellent sight.
My own little world is a comfortable place.
I do everything there at my own pace.
I repeat things I’ve heard from videos and books.
Over and over again until I get looks.
Mom and Dad say, “Use your own words.”
And I think, “These are my own words. Haven‘t you heard?”
Sometimes my Mommy cries for me.
She wants some answers. She wants the key.
If only she knew there is no key.
She has to love me just for me.
She knows where to find me, though it may be loud.
She’ll find me there “ALONE IN THE CROWD“.

An Aspies key to success is his/her special interest. Encourage what they are interested in. If the interest of the day is dinosaurs, find videos, books, wesites, museums, etc... If it's art, make sure there are always pencils, markers, and paper available. This is their "silver lining". My son has always loved trains. So, we go railroad exhibits and rides. We have videos, and what seems like miles of train track including wooden trains , plastic trains, diecast metal trains; electric, push, and battery operated! He's only 13 so he has other interests but Tony Attwood has assured me that he will find that one extra special interest and there in may lie the perfect job for him. Good luck in pursuing those interests! Check out my famous person list to see what the Asperper's potential can be. With support, encouragement, and practice our Aspie's can lead full, productive, rewarding and successful lives. Social skills training is as essential for success as speech thereapy, occupational therapy, and behavioral intervention. Request it at you next IEP!
